Hello Friday! The kittens are officially eight weeks old! Getting a photo of all four of them together, mostly looking at me, was NOT easy. These kittens are on the go! It only took about 20 or 30 attempts and lots of pleading and chasing by foster mom (aka .. me.) This was definitely the week of figuring out. Figuring out how to climb higher, jump farther, squeeze behind and under, knock over, and the big one ... escape the kitten room. They didn't get very far though, as my guard kitties were on the job. They did get some new toys to keep them occupied in their temporary kitten room and have had a few visitors to play with as well. And they're all over a pound and half now as we see who will reach the magic two pound, ready for adoption, mark first. All in all, it's been a fun and active week! Cheers from the cat cave!
Have a great weekend. xo, Karen

Parker, Jamie, Avery, and Teddi are seven weeks old! Here are some highlights from our week: On Saturday, Mama Chloe left us to go back to the rescue. This was kind of bittersweet. She was an awesome mama, but clearly miserable being cooped up inside. While I had secretly hoped to win her over so she could eventually be a cuddly, indoor, adoptable lap cat, she wasn't having it. I know in my heart, she'll be much happier being a barn cat. Happy trails, Chloe! I hope you are having fun chasing birds and squirrels. With mama gone, my number one priority has been making sure these little fluff balls are getting enough to eat. Like any typical toddler, they can be a little picky, so we're learning together which foods they like better than others. Lucky for them, I'm an expert in "picky toddler" and they're all doing a great job in the weight department. Speaking of weight, I've switched over from weighing them in grams to pounds/ounces, and they are all at or close to 1 1/2 pounds - even little Avery who was 1 pound 5 ounces this morning. They've really upped their playing game, too. That's my nice way of saying they've gone crazy! I'm constantly re-arranging and moving things in the "kitten room" as they figure out how to jump and climb higher and higher. It's hard to believe only few weeks ago they could barely balance on wobbly legs. Of course their crazy doesn't matter because as you can see, their cuteness totally overrides everything. Also this week, my two big guys got their first peek at the kittens as I was coming out of their room. They seemed completely unimpressed. I hope you all have a great weekend! xo, Karen Hello all! I don't want to jinx anything, but we're on week six and after several roller coaster weeks, this one was smooth sailing (other than a few litter box misses, but they were so, so close!! Getting to that box on time is hard when all you want to do is play … trust me I get it. Maybe next week, kittens.) Hitting the six week mark was a major accomplishment for these fragile babies who have survived a whole host of kitten ailments so far in their short lives, but two things that happened this week really stand out: 1. Little Miss Avery, the tiniest of the group FINALLY started putting on some serious weight and hit the one pound mark yesterday! ...and... 2. All four babies are now eating solid meals of kitten food. This means it's time for us to say goodbye to Mama Chloe, who is still too feral to be adopted out to a family, but will be very happy living as a (spayed) barn cat. Thank you, Chloe for taking such good care of your babies! Besides, eating big kitty food and missing the litter box, these kittens are all about playing. Here's how they spent their week: My big guys are still completely uninterested in the tiny creatures behind the door on the second floor, but hope you all have a great weekend. xo, Karen A few weeks ago, I was looking around on Twitter, WAY over my allotted ten minutes, and I happened to notice a tweet by someone who said they’d written THOUSANDS of words using some new trick. Comic Sans? As in the font you’re not supposed to use ever under any situation EVER? After further investigation (ie – a search on Twitter, further prolonging my procrastination) I noticed tons and tons of folks tweeting the praises of this crazy hack. But what was it? For that I switched to Google and found this blog post:
Get Over Yourself And Start Writing In Comic Sans: www.google.com/amp/s/lifehacker.com/get-over-yourself-and-start-writing-in-comic-sans-1831177236/amp As with Twitter, there were plenty of articles on Google about this miracle writing tool. I decided to give it a try. Admittedly, I’d just started working on a new story and was struggling through some plot points. I could use all of the help I could get. I've been using the hack ever since. Here's a peek at some of my next ( very rough draft ) story in Comic Sans and my thoughts about it: What a fun week it's been with the kittens ... Happy five weeks old to them! Well, let me back up for a moment and say that the week started off a little scary when Avery, the tiniest of the bunch lost some weight. But she has rallied back and I'm happy to report that she has gained 90 (!!!) grams this week AND she is the only one of the four kittens who is now eating actual kitten food! Good job, Avery!! She's still almost 200 grams shy of her siblings, but she is catching up SO fast, especially now that she's eating hearty meals. I've been trying to get her siblings interested in food, but they are having too much fun playing with some of the toys I've brought in and have zero interest in anything other than the milk bar. Goal for the week! Did I mention the kittens are having fun playing? They are non-stop balls of energy! Here are some of the shots I managed to get this week … and believe me, it's not easy. They rarely stay still long enough to snap a picture. And of course hello from these guys, who think naps and treats are way cooler than kittens. Hope you have a great weekend.
